I cannot imagine Apostle Paul bouncing up on the platform, cracking a few jokes to put the congregation at ease. And then entertaining them with flippancies in order to play upon their feelings said MLJ
Why is the preaching of the Gospel such an urgent matter? The answer is 'that the wrath of God is revealed from Heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men' said MLJ
For many years I thought I was a christian when in fact I was not (...) What I needed was preaching that would convict me of sin and make me see my need (...) But I never heard that. The preachings we had was always based on the assumption that we were all Christians said MLJ.
A Sermon on Galatians 1:3-5
The world is not void of sound preachers. The danger we face today is that we have many preachers who are not preaching the engrafted Word of God, Which is able to save souls. The Bible warned us that there shall be such in our midst in this present evil world (2 Peter 2:1-2).
Why should there be people who sit under preachings Sunday after Sunday and their lives has nothing to show that they are Christians? Could it it be that these millions of people have been hearing entertainment and not the Word of God? By our fruits, we shall be known as either Christians or unbelievers. That is, by the way we conduct our lives in this present evil world.
I thank Christ Jesus for being faithful to me by leading me to hear Sound Doctrine from men who truly preached His Word. If any man taste after righteousness, God is willing to supply that in abundance by making a way for that man to hear good preachings of His Word. This was what the Lord did for me when He exposed me to the preachings of great men such as Charles Spurgeon, George Whitefield, Martin Luther, Jonathan Edwards, Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones and many more.
I want to particularly draw your attention to the sermons of Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones. If you are truly hungry to hear the Word of God as it is ought to be preached, I will therefore point you to the website where Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones sermons were recorded and published.
'The main danger confronting the pulpit (...) is to assume that all who claim to be Christians, and who think they are Christians, and who are members of the Church, are therefore of necessity Christians. This, to me, is the most fatal blunder of all; and certainly the commonest' said Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones.
Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones (20 December 1899-1 March 1981) was a Welsh Protestant minister, preacher and medical doctor who was influential in the Reformed wing of the British evangelical movement in the 20th century. For almost 30 years, he was the minister of Westminster Chapel in London.
Dr. Lloyd-Jones delivered over 1,600 sermons during his ministry at Westminster Chapel in London from 1939-1968. He is considered today by many evangelical leaders to be one of the greatest preachers of the last century and an authority on biblical truth and the sufficiency of Scripture, these sermons dive deep into the riches of the Word of God.
